Frequently Asked Questions

How does tutoring work?

Tutoring is delivered one-to-one, with a consistent weekly session time.

Each session is personalised to your child and may include:

  • targeted teaching
  • guided practice
  • feedback and next steps

Learning is adjusted week by week to ensure steady, meaningful progress.

How does online tutoring work?

Online tutoring is delivered live using a secure video platform.

Your child works directly with their tutor in real time — talking, writing, solving problems, and receiving immediate feedback.

Sessions are interactive, structured, and designed to feel natural and engaging.

Will my child be able to focus online?

In most cases, yes.

Many children find it easier to focus online because:

  • they are in a familiar, comfortable environment
  • there are fewer distractions
  • the learning is personalised to them

Sessions are carefully paced to keep children engaged, supported, and confident.

What set-up do we need for online tutoring?

The set-up is simple:

  • a laptop or tablet
  • a stable internet connection
  • a quiet, distraction-free space
  • a working camera and microphone

Your child should also have basic materials ready (e.g. paper and pencil).

Most families find children adjust very quickly to learning online.

What subjects do you tutor?

Tutoring is offered in:

  • Mathematics
  • English (reading, writing, spelling)

Sessions focus on building strong foundations, strengthening understanding, and extending learning where appropriate.

Do you work with children with learning difficulties?

Yes.

We recognise that every child learns differently and believe that all students are capable of success with the right support.

If your child has a specific learning difficulty, this can be discussed during your initial consultation so sessions can be tailored appropriately. Please mention any diagnosed learning needs when booking.

We have experience supporting a range of learning differences, including:

  • Dyslexia
  • Dyscalculia
  • Auditory Processing Disorder
  • Autism
  • ADHD and ADD

We understand the challenges that a busy classroom can present, particularly for students with learning differences.

Sessions are structured, clear, and sequential, helping children build confidence, strengthen understanding, and experience success at their own pace.

Do you offer learning assessments?

Yes.

Assessments can be completed to gain a clear understanding of your child’s current level in areas such as maths and reading.

These are designed to feel natural and low-pressure for your child, while providing clear, practical insights and next steps.

Do you offer support for parents?

Yes.

Connected Learning works in partnership with families.

Support may include:

  • understanding your child’s learning
  • guidance on what to focus on
  • practical strategies you can use at home

The goal is to help you feel informed, confident, and clear in how to support your child’s learning.

Do you offer homework support?

Yes.

A weekly homework subscription is available for $9.50 per week.

This is sent out on a Sunday and includes a structured home learning pack designed to support core skills.

Please get in touch to find out which level is best suited for your child.

How quickly will we see progress?

Progress looks different for every child.

Often, the first changes you will notice are:

  • increased confidence
  • clearer understanding
  • improved approach to learning

Academic progress builds from there, supported by consistent, focused sessions.

Do we need to commit long-term?

No.

Tutoring runs on a weekly basis, making it flexible for families.

However, consistent sessions are recommended, as progress is built through regular support and continuity.

Can we speak before getting started?

Yes.

If you would like to talk things through first, you’re welcome to arrange a short consultation to discuss your child’s needs and ask any questions.

What if my child is unsure about online learning?

This is very common - and usually short-lived.

Most children settle quickly once they begin and enjoy the one-to-one attention and clear support.

Sessions are designed to be calm, engaging, and confidence-building from the start.
